Industry Welcome to Fife

Free Online Training Portal Opens for Fife Businesses

17 June 2026

Fife businesses are being offered access to a new online training portal, providing free and flexible opportunities to support workforce development and improve operational standards.

The platform, delivered by Fife Council’s Town Centre Development, Tourism and Economic Development teams, brings together a broad programme of mandatory and compliance-based training. It has been designed to help businesses meet regulatory requirements while also investing in staff skills and customer experience.

At its core, the portal focuses on key areas essential to day-to-day operations. These include health and safety, food safety, fire safety and wider workplace essentials. Alongside these, a bespoke Welcome to Fife customer service course has been developed specifically for the tourism and hospitality sector, aiming to support consistent, high-quality experiences for visitors across the region.

The initiative reflects a growing need for accessible and practical training solutions, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses where time and resources are often limited. By offering digital, self-paced learning, the portal allows staff to complete training at a time that suits both the individual and the needs of the business.

Users are given access to a comprehensive catalogue of online courses through a straightforward and user-friendly platform. Each course can be completed at the learner’s own pace, with digital certificates awarded on completion. This provides both a clear record of achievement and reassurance for employers seeking to demonstrate compliance and ongoing staff development.

Access to the portal is provided through licences allocated on a per-employee basis. Availability is limited, and each licence offers full access to the platform until December 2026. Businesses taking part are required to complete a short registration form for each member of staff and nominate a manager to act as the main point of contact. This individual will oversee participation and help provide feedback on the programme.

By simplifying access to training, the scheme aims to remove common barriers to skills development while promoting a culture of continuous learning. It also supports wider ambitions to strengthen business resilience and raise standards across Fife’s visitor economy.

Improving skills and ensuring compliance are key factors in maintaining a competitive and trusted business environment. For sectors such as tourism and hospitality, where customer experience is central, the ability to invest in staff development can have a direct impact on reputation and long-term sustainability.

Businesses across Fife are now being encouraged to make use of the opportunity, using the portal to upskill teams, meet regulatory obligations and enhance the quality of service they provide.
