Knockhill gears up for first ever night time race event and spectacular drone show!

Saturday 26^th September, 12 noon to 10pm

The team at Knockhill, spectators, officials, marshals and above all competitors and all eagerly looking forward to Scotland's first ever day into darkness race meeting on Saturday 26^th of September. The return of the Classic Sports Car Club and their fabulous range of classic racing championships and series, combined with the SMRC Scottish Sports and Saloon Car Championship, will take on Knockhill, but continue from the race start time of midday, to race into darkness!

Supported by the Fife Council Strategic Events Fund, the event will be a first for Knockhill, for Fife and for Scotland as 130 plus car racers will compete in their classic Morgans, Jaguars, Alfa Romeo's MG and Porsches. Racing starts at mid day and after a short break at 6pm, will continue with two races with pit stops and driver changes, from 7pm to 10pm.

Cars will be piped onto the circuit by Hazel Whyte, a champion Piper before the lights go out and the drivers blast down to Duffus Dip in darkness. During the two 40 minute races, the drama of pit stops will further add to the excitement for all. Once the chequered flag has dropped at 10pm, fans will be allowed to flood into the pit lane and on to the starting grid to watch Knockhill's first ever Drone Show, provided by Matthews Technical Services Scotland from South Queensferry. The 15 minute performance, another first for Knockhill, will entertain the spectators as brakes and engines cool in the paddock. 

A full-scale night time test was undertaken by the organisers yesterday to test the lighting, safety and track plan and proved very successful. Stuart Gray, Knockhill Director of Events said "We wanted to host a pre-event test to ensure all our planning was in order and two local racers came to Knockhill to drive it under the competition configuration. Lighting Towers and cats eye markers lined the track and it is amazing how a track you know so well takes on a whole new dimension in darkness. We are truly excited about the prospect of the event and expect a bumper crowd to witness this unique spectacle. We are indebted to the Fife Council Strategic Events Fund for supporting us in this new initiative"

Gates open at 8.30am with racing starts at 12 noon through to 6pm followed by a break to allow it to get dark, with the first of two night time qualifying sessions from 7.15pm to the final race chequered flag drop at 10pm. Thereafter the drone show will have its performance between 10.10pm and 10.25pm.

Adult admission is £20, with children 12 and under free. Spectators are requested to bring their own torch and wrap up in warm clothing. Tickets and event info are available in advance on www.knockhill.com/events or at the gates.
