Local Tourism Business Supports the Fife Coastal Path
The Fife Coastal Path plays an important part in the lives of many Fife residents and is a highlight for many visitors who come to the Kingdom of Fife. Visitor numbers continue to grow, with many more people being encouraged to enjoy Fife’s amazing outdoor spaces during the pandemic and footfall is still above pre-pandemic levels.
Fife Coast and Countryside Trust, the charity who manage and maintain the Fife Coastal Path, developed ‘The Big Green Footprint Scheme,’ an initiative which allows Fife businesses to support the work of the Trust and contribute to the maintenance of the Coastal Path and other sites and paths managed by the Trust. Businesses can do this in several ways from corporate volunteering activities to asking customers to make a small voluntary donation.
Abbeyford Leisure was one of the founding members of the scheme. Their 3 award-winning holiday parks in St Andrews, Elie and St Monans, and cottages in Lower Largo, are linked by the Fife Coastal Path and walking the path is an integral part of many visitors' holidays. Abbeyford Leisure invites its holiday guests to add a voluntary £1.00 donation when booking their stay. This allows holiday park guests to give a little something back, to the places they love and provides a mechanism for collecting those small contributions which, collectively, adds up to a significant amount.
Peter Davies, Head of Marketing Operations, Abbeyford Leisure said: ‘This year Abbeyford Leisure guests have generously donated £1,124 and since 2017 they have contributed well over £4,000 which has been invested in the maintenance and development of the path.
‘The Fife Coastal Path is enjoyed by many of our guests every year and is a hugely important and much-loved feature of our coast. It’s essential that the path and the surrounding wildlife habitats are properly cared for and safeguarded. The Big Green Footprint Scheme is an exciting and imaginative way to ensure this happens, and we’re delighted to continue to support the initiative,’ added Peter.
George Eaves, Field Teams Manager FCCT commented: ‘Abbeyford Leisure’s continued support of the Big Green Footprint Scheme plays an important role in helping to ensure that Fife's natural beauty, including the Fife Coastal Path, is preserved and developed for future generations.’
