HATTON TO RETURN TO ST ANDREWS CHASING HISTORIC FOURTH ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS TITLE

ST ANDREWS, August 4, 2025 – Tyrrell Hatton will be back at St Andrews in October to defend his Alfred Dunhill Links title, with the goal of becoming the first ever golfer to win the Championship FOUR times.

Last year he was acclaimed the greatest Champion in the history of the Dunhill Links after becoming the first to win a third title after a thrilling final day on the Old Course, sinking the winning birdie putt on the 18th green.

Hatton enhanced his reputation further last month as one of the outstanding players of Links golf, finishing tied 16th in the Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

He said: “It doesn’t get much better than winning at St Andrews. To play in a tournament there and be in contention is something you always remember. To say I’ve won three times in the Dunhill at the Home of Golf is even more special.

“I don’t think you ever go into events thinking you could actually win four times, but there is definitely something that suits me about the Dunhill. Last year was even more special because it was the first time I've actually won the tournament with my dad there, so it meant a lot.”

Hatton sank a four-foot putt for a birdie three on the 18th to beat Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts, after the two had been locked together all day in a tense battle. It meant he added another victory to his back-to-back Dunhill successes in 2016 and 2017.

“I’ve had a great run, but I do know that Links golf can always come back and bite you, so you have to play with more patience and be ready for anything. You’ve really got to stick in there. I suppose that’s what makes it so much fun and such a reward if you can win.”

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is a celebration of Links golf, played over the Old Course St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, from October 2 – 5.

With a prize fund of US$5 million, the Alfred Dunhill Links incorporates two separate competitions - an Individual Professional tournament for the world's leading golfers and the Team Championship in which the professionals are paired with amateur golfers which creates a unique atmosphere.

Among the golfers who have graced the fairways over the years as well as Tyrrell Hatton are Major Championship winners such as Rory McIlroy, Pádraig Harrington, Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick, Brooks Koepka, Ernie Els, Justin Rose, Sir Nick Faldo and Martin Kaymer. Other popular golfers to have played are 2022 winner Ryan Fox, Tommy Fleetwood and Americans Billy Horschel and Tony Finau.

This is the 40th year that Alfred Dunhill has supported golf at St Andrews – first in the Alfred Dunhill Cup from 1985, then in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship from 2001.

For the first three days entry is FREE, tickets are not needed. Only tickets for the final day, Sunday, October 5, on the Old Course, need to be purchased.  To purchase tickets, visit: https://www.alfreddunhilllinks.com/tickets/

In June 2011 the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation was established as the official Foundation of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The Foundation is committed to developing young amateur golfers in Scotland and South Africa and also supports the University of St Andrews and the St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation, which refurbishes and preserves historical monuments in the town.
