Fife Welcomes the 150th Open

6 July 2022

Fife will be in the spotlight from 10 to 17 July when The 150th Open comes to St Andrews, and the Kingdom is ready to welcome visitors from all over the world.

It is always a very special occasion when The Open returns to the Home of Golf and this year is set to be one to remember for players, visitors and those following the broadcast and online coverage of the action.

As the host local authority Fife Council will be present at the event, alongside partners Fife Golf Partnership and VisitScotland, and will be promoting the area to the thousands of visitors attending. The Fife stand will be open throughout Open week, with staff on hand to give visitors information about golf and all the other fantastic attractions and facilities the Kingdom has to offer.

The focus at the event and through wider online promotion will be on encouraging visitors to come back to Fife and explore further.

Provost of Fife, Jim Leishman, said “The Open is a wonderful opportunity to showcase St Andrews and Fife, bringing thousands of visitors to the area and boosting the local economy by potentially millions of pounds. We know from experience that The Open “effect” lasts well beyond the week, with tourism and golf businesses often seeing an increase in bookings right through to the following year.

This year is particularly significant as it is the 150th Open and there will be record crowds attending throughout the week to watch the world’s top golfers and enjoy St Andrews. We hope many of them will take the chance to explore wider and return to Fife in the future.
