Scotland’s largest free festival celebrating places and stories, new and old returns for its 35th year.

The launch of the 2024 festival was marked by an afternoon reception on the 24th of July at The Merchants House of Glasgow in the city centre. Guests were entertained by Story Teller and Historical Interpreter, Kirsten Milliken, bringing the stories of Scotland’s heritage and historic sites to life.

2024 marks the 35th year of Doors Open Days, a festival that sees organisations and volunteers offer free access to sites and events across Scotland. The festival aims to ensure that Scotland’s built and cultural heritage is made accessible to everyone living in and visiting the country.

Across the country doors will be opened wide, welcoming visitors to uncover hidden gems and experience familiar places through fresh eyes.

The 2024 programme is now available on the Doors Open Days website, where you will discover an array of captivating attractions ranging from mills and museums to bunkers and brochs.

Director of Scottish Civic Trust, Doors Open Days national coordinator, Joe Traynor, said: “Every year Doors Open Days allows us all to enjoy Scotland’s places and spaces for free. This is more important than ever this year, as travel costs continue to rise leading many to seek more affordable experiences. Some of Scotland’s greatest treasures are right on our doorstep or easily accessible by local public transport. Doors Open Days makes it simpler than ever to plan a cost-effective and unique day out. ’’
