Come and explore Dunfermline with the new Dunfermline Discovery Trails

There’s a new way for visitors and locals to find out more about Dunfermline’s city centre and explore its many attractions. The Dunfermline Discovery Trails are a series of digital walking routes designed to guide users through the historic and present-day stories of Dunfermline, blending the city’s rich history with its vibrant present.

The trails aim to showcase the unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty that Dunfermline has to offer and encourage people to spend more time in the city.

There are three trails:

Green Edges: Discover the two parks at the heart of Dunfermline, Pittencrieff Park (or The Glen) and the Public Park, which are perfect for relaxation and recreation.

Culture & Heritage: Dive into over a thousand years of history, exploring Dunfermline’s royal, religious, and cultural significance.

Industry & Commerce: Learn about Dunfermline’s evolution as a bustling commercial hub, from its designation as a Royal Burgh in the 1120s, to the present-day reuse of important historic buildings.

Councillor James Calder, Convener of the City of Dunfermline Area Committee, said “The new Dunfermline Discovery Trails are a great way for people to find out more about our fascinating city. They are a great starting point, giving an overview of different aspects of the city centre and encouraging users to explore further and stay for longer. This is another great opportunity that we are developing as part of our journey through city status, ensuring Dunfermline is an exciting visitor destination.”

Donald Mackenzie, Chair of Dunfermline & West Fife tourism Association, said “Dunfermline is very well known for its history and heritage and the new trails reinforce this as well as showcasing other must visit spots in the city centre. Encouraging people to take time to explore the city further will also benefit local businesses and support the continued growth of our visitor economy.”

The trails are on a dedicated website www.dunfermlinediscoverytrails.co.uk and are designed to be used with a smartphone, featuring live maps to ensure you always know your location.

The Dunfermline Discovery Trails were created by Welcome to Fife and funded through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
