Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum Launches Wellbeing Activity Bags for Families
The Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum is excited to announce
the launch of its brand-new Wellbeing Activity Bags, designed to promote the NHS 5 Ways to Wellbeing for families with children aged 4 to 12 years old. These bags, available for free, can be signed out and taken to Pittencrieff Park or the Nave, offering a fun and educational way for families to connect with history, nature,
and each other.
Each Activity Bag is packed with an engaging, hands-on activity estimated to take 30 minutes, based on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing a set of principles from the NHS that encourage improving mental health and overall wellbeing. The bags are designed to help
children and families enjoy the outdoors while learning about Andrew Carnegie’s legacy and connecting with the environment.
“We wanted to create an experience that brings together family fun, physical activity, with an injection of Andrew Carnegie's legacy, all while supporting the mental wellbeing of our visitors,” said Jaia Kemp, Engagement Officer at the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace
Museum. “The NHS 5 Ways to Wellbeing offer a perfect framework for this, and Pittencrieff Park is the ideal location to experience them in action.”

Activity Bag Highlights:
- Connect: Creative family games and storytelling activities, inspired by Andrew
Carnegie’s life and values. - Be Active: Outdoor challenges designed to get families moving, exploring, and
having fun in the park. - Take Notice: Nature-based activities that encourage children to observe and
appreciate the beauty of their surroundings. - Keep Learning: Educational puzzles and tasks that introduce children to
Carnegie’s impact on education and society. - Give: Activities promoting kindness and giving back to the local community and
environment.
The bags were thoughtfully created by Rita Rui, as part of her MA in Museum Education
from the University of Glasgow. Rita chose the project to encourage positive mental
wellbeing through creative play and physical activity, in line with the NHS guidelines.
Families can use the bags in the park, making it easy to enjoy quality time together while
connecting with the natural environment.
