A Roaring Success: The Red Lion, Culross
The Red Lion in Culross is a shining example of how community-led tourism can drive local impact and long-term sustainability.
Thanks to support from the Scottish Land Fund and Rural Communities INTO Action, the local community successfully secured ownership of this well-loved village pub ensuring it continues to serve as a warm and welcoming hub for both residents and visitors.
Importantly, The Red Lion never closed its doors. Instead, the transition to community ownership has helped safeguard its future, allowing the business to invest in local employment, develop partnerships with regional producers, and maintain a strong connection to the town’s heritage and hospitality.
This initiative aligns closely with Fife’s priorities around community wealth building and tourism that benefits people and place. The Red Lion now operates with a clear social purpose, demonstrating the value of putting local people at the heart of decision-making and enterprise.
Congratulations to everyone involved for turning this shared vision into a sustainable and inspiring success story. Click HERE to view full case study.
