Showcasing Fife at UKinbound 2026
A week of Inspiration, Connections, and New Opportunities
Last week, the Welcome to Fife team headed to Manchester for UKinbound Convention 2026, joining tourism leaders from across the UK and international markets for three days of networking, insights, and industry celebration. It was an exceptionally positive week for Fife, with strong interest from global buyers, inspiring speaker sessions, and fantastic Scottish success stories.

Strong Buyer Interest in Fife’s Growing Tourism Offer
During the convention, our team met with numerous inbound tour operators and travel buyers, many of whom were discovering the breadth of Fife’s tourism offer for the first time. Their enthusiasm centred on:
- Fife’s rich coastal and cultural heritage
- Outdoor experiences, food and drink, and emerging new product
- New accommodation offerings
Many buyers expressed interest in visiting soon and that they had strong interest from clients, with several are now arranging in‑person familiarisation trips a crucial next step in strengthening our travel trade relationships and showcasing Fife’s potential firsthand.
Insights from UKinbound’s 2026 Speaker Line‑Up
This year’s convention also delivered a programme of impactful seminars and discussions.
The headline speaker was Karen Blackett CBE, UKinbound’s confirmed 2026 keynote speaker. Her session provided a compelling look at leadership, creativity, and the evolving landscape of UK tourism. Karen is a highly respected turnaround CEO with three decades of experience leading major organisations, including serving as UK President of WPP, and currently holds non‑executive roles at Diageo and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. She also serves as Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth and co‑founded the Black Equity Organisation. [linkedin.com]
Her insights set an inspirational tone for the event, reinforcing themes highly relevant to Fife’s tourism strategy, including:
- The growing demand for authentic, place‑led visitor experiences
- The increasing importance of sustainability and responsible tourism
- The power of creative storytelling in destination identity
- The need for agility, collaboration, and innovation within the visitor economy
Expanding Opportunities: Growth in the Indian Inbound Market
A standout insight from this year’s convention came from Gary Robson, Deputy Director for Europe, India & the GCC at VisitBritain, who led a session on two of the UK’s most valuable and fastest‑growing inbound markets: India and the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council).
Gary highlighted the remarkable growth potential of both regions. He shared that India and the GCC are expected to contribute significantly to the UK visitor economy, with tourism from India forecast to be worth £1.4 billion by 2030, while inbound tourism from GCC countries is projected to reach £4.5 billion by the same year.
He noted India’s rising travel appetite driven by strong cultural connections with the UK, an expanding middle class, and increasing demand for film tourism, self‑drive holidays, and destination weddings — all areas with strong relevance for Scotland and regional destinations like Fife.
On the GCC side, Gary outlined the region’s exceptional visitor value, with GCC travellers ranking second only to the US in total spend. Forecasts indicate 1.4 million GCC visits to the UK in 2025, representing a 7% year‑on‑year increase. These visitors stay longer, spend more, and show strong interest in luxury, cultural, and family travel experiences presenting valuable opportunities for regions offering high‑quality hospitality and compelling storytelling.
By bringing both markets into focus, Gary reinforced how important it is for UK destinations to tailor experiences, strengthen travel‑trade partnerships, and promote regional diversity priorities that align strongly with Fife’s tourism ambitions.
Scottish Success at the Awards Dinner
We were also delighted to see several Scottish tourism businesses recognised at the UKinbound Awards Dinner:
- Cashel Travel
- Lomond Leisure Group
- Jacobite Cruises
Their achievements highlight the strength and innovation driving Scotland’s tourism sector forward.
Looking Ahead: UKinbound 2027 in Newcastle Gateshead
As this year’s convention wrapped up, UKinbound confirmed that the 2027 Annual Convention will be hosted by Newcastle Gateshead, with the two‑day event taking place in February 2027 at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music and additional venues across the region.
Fife’s Tourism Momentum is Growing
UKinbound 2026 has significantly strengthened Fife’s profile within the UK travel trade. With new buyer relationships formed, multiple familiarisation trips now in development, and fresh inspiration from the convention’s speaker programme, Fife is well‑positioned to grow its international tourism footprint.
We look forward to building on this momentum and to joining colleagues again at UKinbound 2027 in Newcastle Gateshead.
Our next trade event will be VisitScotland Connect on the 15th and 16th April. If you would like your business highlighted in the product presentation please contact us.
