Industry Welcome to Fife

FIFE FIVE FOOD PLEDGE

Fife is home to a rich and abundant natural larder, offering businesses a wealth of exceptional local produce. By championing ingredients from closer to home, restaurants, cafés, shops and hospitality businesses can support the local economy, strengthen their connections with local producers and give customers a truly authentic taste of Fife.

Local sourcing helps preserve the unique character of a destination, creating a stronger sense of place and giving visitors an authentic experience that reflects the culture, heritage and flavours of the region. By sourcing ingredients and products from nearby farmers, growers, producers and artisans, businesses help keep money circulating within the local area, supporting jobs, encouraging entrepreneurship and strengthening rural communities.

This is why we've introduced an exciting new initiative - Fife Five. Fife businesses are asked to pledge to using, serving and/or selling at least five locally sourced products on their shelves and menus.

It doesn’t have to happen straight away. You can work on it over time and keep telling the story of your journey to commit to using more produce.

Fife Five is all about making it easier for your customers to access the excellent food and drink produced locally, telling the stories of the producers and keeping up with consumer expectations.

  • Being part of a wider promotional campaign designed to raise awareness of the Fife Five and the businesses taking part.
  • Reaching new customers who are increasingly interested in local provenance and supporting local businesses.
  • Enhancing the visitor experience by making it easier for customers and visitors to discover and enjoy food and drink produced in Fife.
  • Raising the business or organisation’s profile within the local community and contributing to community wealth building.
  • Strengthening local supply chains by creating stronger connections between producers, suppliers and businesses.
  • Reducing food miles and supporting sustainability through greater use of local sourced products.

BENEFITS TO GETTING INVOLVED

Using local produce can deliver significant benefits to both customers and businesses. Ingredients that travel shorter distances are often fresher, more seasonal and of higher quality, resulting in better-tasting food and drink.

Consumers are increasingly curious about where their food comes from and are looking for choices that support local communities and a more sustainable future.

By championing local produce across menus, shelves and promotional materials, businesses can respond to this demand while reducing food miles, celebrating Fife’s producers and giving customers a reason to choose them over the competition.

But local food is about more than ingredients; it’s about the people, places and stories behind them. Sharing these stories can enrich the customer experience, build a stronger brand identity, foster loyalty and create a genuine connection between customers and the local food community.

  • A menu within a bicycle ride away!

“We wanted to see just how much of our menu we could source from within a bicycle ride of The Rhynd. What we discovered was incredible – Fife has an amazing network of producers right on our doorstep. It’s made us think differently about what local really means and how we can bring those stories to our customers.”
