St Andrews Links Trust Unveils the Home of Golf Tartan
St Andrews Links Trust, the custodian of the world’s most storied golf courses, today launches the officially registered Home of Golf tartan to mark a defining new chapter in the destination’s identity.
Available online today, the new tartan has been created by The Isle Mill, part of the Macnaughton Group, a family company with more than 240 years of heritage designing and weaving textiles in Scotland.
For centuries, tartan has served as a symbol of belonging, bringing together families, clans and communities through a shared heritage and sense of place. The Home of Golf tartan continues that tradition with a distinct weave that unites golfers around the world through their shared love of St Andrews and the sport that was born here.
Its palette draws directly from the landscape that has shaped golf for centuries: a navy base anchors the design, joined by a sand shade inspired by the sandstone of the iconic Swilcan Bridge and the buildings of the historic town; a soft lilac drawn from the heather lining the links courses and the evening skies above the Old Course's famous 18th hole; and a sea blue evoking the waters surrounding the town and the Swilcan Burn that winds its way through the links.
Customers will have the chance to purchase a range of golf apparel and lifestyle products, including a full tartan polo shirt, baseball cap, headcovers, throw and teddy bear, with items priced between £30 and £120. Personalisation of selected items in the collection is also available to add a unique touch.
Kevin Liddle, Head of Retail at St Andrews Links Trust, said: “Tartan is one of Scotland’s most important storytelling traditions and we are thrilled to bring the Home of Golf tartan into our retail offering. Building on the success of our previous tartan ranges, this new collection gives every visitor the chance to take a piece of St Andrews home with them.”
The new tartan launch forms part of the wider evolution and consolidation of the Home of Golf brand, which includes an updated logo. Together, these strengthen a visual identity rooted in the physical landscape and heritage of St Andrews, as well as its modern spirit.
James Ralley, Commercial Director at St Andrews Links Trust, said: “The Home of Golf tartan design weaves together the iconic elements of our links environment – from the stone of the Swilcan Bridge to the heather lining our courses – making a great addition to our visual identity.
“The Home of Golf brand is about connection, and this tartan, alongside the new Home of Golf logo, creates a tangible link that unites golfers around the world through their shared love for the birthplace of the game.”
The collection is now available online, as well as in-store at the Home of Golf Hub which officially opens its doors in the heart of St Andrews in late July.
From Spring 2027, the Home of Golf tartan will become the Trust's main tartan offering, rolling out to all official merchandise stores as the definitive plaid of the Home of Golf. Until then, The Home of Golf Hub on Market Street will be the only physical retail location stocking the new collection in 2026.
The Hub marks the first time St Andrews Links Trust has had a permanent community, information and retail presence in the heart of the town, offering residents and visitors a dedicated destination to explore and purchase exclusive Home of Golf products.
The Home of Golf tartan range is now available online at https://shop.standrews.com/, and Customers will be able to shop the range in store at the Home of Golf Hub from 28 July 2026.
