The Shoregate, Crail has been included in The Times 100 Best Places to Stay in the UK for 2025
The Shoregate, in the East Neuk of Fife, has been included in this year's The Times / Sunday Times review of UK hotel excellence. Their renowned travel writing team considers facilities, dining, service and value for money to compile their annual recommendations. As one of just seven hotels in Scotland to make the list, and the only one in Fife, The Shoregate received praise for its bold mix of tradition and modernity, stunning location and exceptional hospitality.
Located at the heart of Crail and operating as a hostelry since the late 1800s, the building was rescued and revitalised by owners Nicholas Frost and Damon Reynolds in 2019. Following an extensive two-year restoration, The Shoregate reopened in May 2022, carefully preserving its heritage while introducing contemporary elegance. Every aspect of the transformation was a collaborative effort with local craftsmen, joiners, and artists, ensuring that The Shoregate reflects both its coastal setting and varied history.
“We are truly honoured to be recognised by The Times as one of the UK’s top places to stay,” said Nicholas Frost, co-owner of The Shoregate. “From the outset, our vision was to create a space that not only welcomes visitors to the village but also becomes an integral part of Crail’s vibrant community. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our team and the incredible local support we’ve received.”
Guests at The Shoregate can enjoy a dining experience that highlights the best of the region’s ingredients, sourced from trusted local suppliers. The bright contemporary dining room and intimate bar serve carefully curated lunch and dinner menus, while the four elegantly designed guest rooms offer a stylish retreat, three of which boast views over Crail and the Firth of Forth.
