Disability Essentials e-learning

12 March 2024

Working with AccessAble, VisitScotland is providing businesses with free access to the online Disability Essentials e-learning course.

Aimed at front of house staff, this course will provide staff confidence in their engagement with disabled people. It uniquely combines legal requirements with the lived experience of disabled people.

There is limited capacity and therefore sign-up will be on a first come, first served basis.

About the course

The course takes 30 - 40 minutes to complete. It’s a time-efficient way to gain knowledge to help provide the best inclusive customer service.

The course modules cover:

  • what do we mean by the word “disability”?
  • types of disability conditions
  • how to provide a great service for everyone
  • language surrounding disabilities

Once you register, you can do the course all in one go, or stop at any point and come back to it.

At the end of each module there is a short multiple-choice test with the pass rate of 70%.

After you have successfully completed the modules, you will receive a training certificate.

Course credentials

Designed by AccessAble, the course content was written by its founder, Dr Gregory Burke, a practicing employment and discrimination barrister and disabled person. Gregory is also named as one of the top 100 most influential disabled people in the UK, on Shaw Trust Disability Power 100 list.

Also included in the course is a series of embedded videos featuring AccessAble ambassadors who have direct experience of the range of disabilities and challenges described in the training.
