Art, heritage and community at the heart of a powerful new exhibition
An extraordinary story of resilience, creativity and community spirit is coming to life this autumn with A Journey Through Dunfermline, a new exhibition by local artist Charlie Marshall at Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries from Friday 24 October.
Born in a small mining village in West Lothian, Charlie’s journey is one of transformation. After working for decades as an industrial painter on projects like the Forth Road and Rail Bridge, a serious car accident at the age of 52 changed everything. What followed was a rediscovery of art - not just as personal therapy, but as a powerful tool to reconnect, inspire and give back.
Now, after three years of dedication, Charlie’s long-awaited exhibition will open its doors, celebrating the historic heart of Dunfermline through his striking and thoughtful artworks – many of which take up to three months to complete.
Importantly, this project would not be possible without the generous support of local solicitors W&AS Bruce, whose sponsorship has enabled a wide range of community events, collaborations and creative activities.
Thanks to the partnership with OnFife, Charlie’s exhibition is being hosted in the beautiful Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries, right in the heart of the Heritage Quarter. OnFife is delighted to support this community-led project and looks forward to welcoming new and returning visitors to see the exhibition.
Selina Mackay, W&AS Bruce Partner, said: “A Journey Through Dunfermline is more than an exhibition - it’s a heartfelt celebration of local heritage, Charlie’s love of the place he calls home, personal resilience and the power of community. It is aimed at all ages, with something for everyone - from art enthusiasts and history lovers to families, schools and care groups."
