Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum receives Museum Accreditation in 2026

The Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum is pleased to announce that it has received Museum Accreditation in 2026, recognising the museum’s commitment to high standards of governance, collections care, public access and visitor experience.
The UK Museum Accreditation Scheme is the nationally agreed standard for museums and galleries. It supports museums to be sustainable, focused and trusted organisations, and covers three key areas: organisational health, managing collections, and users and their experiences.

For the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum, this recognition marks an important milestone in its ongoing work to preserve and share the story of Andrew Carnegie, from his early life in Dunfermline to his global legacy as an industrialist, philanthropist and
advocate for education and opportunity.

The museum, located on Moodie Street in Dunfermline, includes the original cottage
where Andrew Carnegie was born and an adjoining museum hall. Through its
collections, exhibitions, learning activity and public programmes, the museum
connects local heritage with an international story of ambition, migration, enterprise
and philanthropy.

In 2026, the museum is also partnering with the Royal Scottish Academy as part of the
RSA’s 200-year anniversary celebrations, presenting a temporary exhibition featuring
artists connected to the Carnegie Travelling Scholarship.
