A FIRST FOR ST ANDREWS: THE PHYSICIAN BAR UNVEILS STORYTELLING COCKTAIL TOUR

Nine cocktails. One town. Every sip tells a story

The award-winning Physician Bar in St Andrews today (Wednesday 24 June 2026) unveils The Physician’s Cocktail Trail – a first-of-its-kind, immersive cocktail tour experience for the town, where every sip tells a story.

This innovative concept invites guests to embark on a curated journey through the town’s most iconic landmarks, legends and hidden corners with nine cocktail recipes designed for discovery, conversation and celebration. A selection of the serves are also available as non-alcoholic alternatives, ensuring the experience can be enjoyed by all.

Inspired by the rich heritage, folklore and character of St Andrews, each cocktail has been carefully crafted by The Physician Bar’s mixologists to reflect a specific location and its story – transforming this new cocktail menu into an experience that is as evocative as it is social.

Designed to be shared, discovered and explored, The Physician’s Cocktail Trail encourages guests to move through St Andrews one sip at a time, uncovering the narratives that have shaped the town for centuries.

The journey begins with Doctor John*, a refined and delicate blend of vanilla vodka, orgeat and citrus, inspired by Dr John Adamson (1809-1870), a pioneering 19th-century physician and physicist who lived and worked in St Andrews. He is celebrated in photography history for producing the first calotype portrait in Scotland in 1841.

From there, guests are invited to take Hamish’s Strut, a vibrant and playful mix of mango and rum with peach and ginger ale, inspired by the much-loved Hamish McHamish statue on Market Street – a symbol of St Andrews’ charm and community spirit.

At the historic cathedral, the menu turns mysterious with The Haunted Lady, a smooth and haunting combination of vodka, pear, amaretto and coconut milk, inspired by the lingering tales of the cathedral ruins and its haunted tower.

The experience then flows to the coast with Wild Swim, a refreshing medley of rum, honeydew, salt and soda, echoing the invigorating calm of Castle Sands tidal pool and St Andrews’ harbour.

From the shoreline to the battlements, Gunpowder delivers a bold and complex serve of Ki No Bi Sei Navy Strength gin, Suze, rhubarb and ginger shrub, inspired by the dramatic history of St Andrews Castle and Gregory’s Place.

The story continues at St Salvator’s Quad with Red Gown, a striking cocktail of pink gin, lemon, red wine and vanilla, paying tribute to the traditions and pageantry of student life.

At West Sands, Chariots of Fire captures the cinematic beauty of the shoreline with a warming blend of whisky, Earl Grey, apple and rosemary – a nod to one of Scotland’s most iconic scenes.

No journey through St Andrews would be complete without a visit to the world-famous Swilcan Bridge, honoured with The Swilcan Bridge cocktail – a rich and contemplative serve of whisky, pine bitters and honey, reflecting both heritage and legacy.

The final stop leads to Blackfriars Chapel with Blackfriars Ruin, a bold and smoky fusion of gin, Lillet Blanc, Cointreau, lemon and burned absinthe – a powerful tribute to the town’s hidden histories and enduring spirit.
