Fife Tourism Partnership

Policies and Programmes

Fife Council

Fife Council declared a Climate Emergency in September 2019 and is currently delivering the Climate Fife Action Plan. The flexible document sets out how the council will work with partners and communities over the next 10 years to become:

  • Climate friendly, transforming how we live to become carbon neutral;
  • Climate ready, helping Fife communities and the economy minimise any impacts from unavoidable climate change;
  • Climate just, making sure all Fifers and our environment benefit from this transition.

Scottish Government

The Scottish Government has committed to transitioning to for net zero emissions of all greenhouse gases by 2045. To meet Scotland’s targets, a rapid transformation across all sectors of our economy and society is required.

In direct response to the UN Paris Agreement, Scotland’s landmark Climate Change Act is one of the most ambitious legislative frameworks for emissions reduction in the world.

The recent Climate Change Plan update which was published in December 2020 is a strategic document on Scotland's green recovery from Covid-19.

Tourism in the 2030 Agenda

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

Tourism has the potential to contribute, directly or indirectly, to all the goals. In particular, it has been included as targets in Goals 8, 12 and 14 on inclusive and sustainable economic growth, sustainable consumption and production (SCP) and the sustainable use of oceans and marine resources, respectively.
