The Tay Cities Clean Growth Initiative, in partnership with The James Hutton Institute, are delighted to offer businesses and stakeholders the opportunity to stay informed on the latest advancements, techniques and innovation in Scotland’s International Barley Hub and Advanced Plant Growth Centre.

This informal, free event, is being held on Thursday, 26th September 2024, from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm at The James Hutton Institute’s Invergowrie Campus. The day will include hearing from a range of speakers on a broad range of emerging trends across the Agri sector including technology, innovation and finance.

Following lunch, the visit will include a tour of Scotland’s world-class facilities at the newly opened James Hutton Institute International Barley Hub, Advanced Plant Growth Centre and Intelligent Growth Solutions’ vertical farm.

This is a day filled with inspiration, insight and knowledge to help businesses consider opportunities around:

· Cutting-Edge Research: JHI is a hub of scientific international expertise. The event will be focused on The International Barley Hub and Advanced Plant Growth Centre, designed to allow businesses to stay informed about the latest advancements, breeding techniques, and innovations related to barley and plants.

· Networking Opportunities: The event is an opportunity for businesses to connect with others, including stakeholders and industry experts. Meeting like-minded people can lead to new business insights, foster new connections and a great way to broaden your network.

· Debt Funding Insights: Understanding trends and what lenders may be looking for is crucial for business success. The event will provide an opportunity to ask our speaker questions about agri debt finance.

· Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Capital: The JHI emphasises sustainable practices. Businesses will learn about environmentally friendly approaches to cultivation, resource management, crop resilience as well as vertical farming from Intelligent Growth Solutions. We will touch on future potential around natural capital projects.

· Value Chain Integration: The event will demonstrate bridging the gap between research and commercial applications. Businesses can explore how barley research and plants translate into economic benefits across the value chain, from farm to consumer.

The website showcases a mix of clean growth projects not only in the Tay Cities Deal, but extending far beyond to enable inter-project synergies, wider project development, knowledge exchange and R&D collaboration, as well as creating an environment for investor engagement. The website acts as a central platform to facilitate, support and accelerate clean growth across Tayside and position the region domestically and internationally.

This event is part of the Tay Cities Clean Growth Initiative, which is part funded through the Tay Cities Region Deal.

The Tay Cities Region Deal is a partnership between local, Scottish and UK governments and the private, academic and voluntary sectors which seeks to create a smarter and fairer Angus, Dundee, Fife and Perth & Kinross under the headings Inclusive Tay; Innovative Tay; International Tay; Connected Tay and An Empowered Tay.

The Scottish Government and UK Government will each invest up to £150 million in the Tay Cities Region Deal over 10 years, subject to final approval of robust business cases.

As of 30th September 2023, over £116m of Government investment has been released and almost 1,411 jobs have been created.

This central investment from both Governments has the potential to lever in £400m of investment over 15 years, of which more than £145m has been secured by Projects.
